Course Structure
Knowledge Development
Science you will love to learn! During the first phase of your SDI Open Water Diver scuba certification you develop an understanding of the basic principles of scuba diving. You learn things like interacting with the underwater environment, physics and Physiology, Equipment, and dive planning just to name a few. Your study resources are included in the eLearning program. For those who prefer traditional book, six knowledge quest sections at the end of each of the six book chapters must be completed prior to your classroom session. Once you are done with your independent study, contact us to book your classroom and confined water sessions!
Confined Water Sessions (Pool)
During your confined water session you’ll get to learn how to prepare your dive gear, clear your mask of water, hover, and several other important and fun skills. The skills learned in confined water will prepare you to dive in a variety of open water environments. Your tuition includes most of your rental gear such as your exposure suit, your BCD, and your regulator; but we request new divers own some of the more basic setup: such as your mask, snorkel, fins and boots. It's more fun, more comfortable, and more conducive to efficient learning when you have a mask that fits your face perfectly! If you don’t already own these, you can purchase them from our wide assortment of top notch gear at the shop when you come by to register and pick up your manual.
Open Water Check-Out Dives
During this portion of your training you finally get to go to the Quarry and dive Ohio’s diverse local waters! You’ll get comfortable at first to a maximum depth of 30 feet, and progress to dives of a maximum depth of 60 feet. It is spread over two days of diving, each day consisting of two dives! You take all of the skills you’ve learned in the classroom & confined water and apply them in real life dives. Once you’ve successfully demonstrated your skills in the quarry over the four dives, you are ready to receive your certification card!

Scuba Medical Form

Recreational scuba diving requires good physical and mental health. There are a few medical conditions which can be hazardous while diving, and those who have, or are predisposed to, any of these conditions, should be evaluated by a physician. This Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire provides a basis to determine if you should seek out that evaluation.

Scuba Liability Release
Lawsuits are prevalent in modern society, and the diving community is not immune to them. It’s important for both divers and dive operators to understand their legal rights and responsibilities.
